4D CT Imaging

New technology makes CT Scans more accurate and faster than before.  4D imaging for radiotherapy allows designing of treatment fields that account for tumor motion, or it’s change in position over time – the 4th dimension. The scanner creates a cinematic image of your body’s breathing, how the tumor moves and the movement of nearby organs. This is very valuable in the accuracy of targeting moving tumors, especially for those found in the lung and abdomen.

The video above shows the displacement of the tumor from the static contour. With 4D CT, we can accurately determine the extent and direction of the target volume. This allows the Radiation Oncologist to maximize preservation of functional lung and improve the radiation treatment for thoracic cancer patients.
